Student Responsibilities:
(1.) Be in seat when the bell rings.
(2.) Bring supplies to class.
(3.) Be respectful.
(4.) Be responsible.
(5.) Be safe.
(6.) Wear appropriate clothing.
(7.) Be on task.
(8.) No food or drink.
Consequences:
First Offense: verbal warning
Second Offense: student and/or parent conference
Third Offense: student will be sent to the office
**If a student is severely disruptive; uses abusive, vulgar, indecent language or physical gestures; is fighting; is vandalizing property; shows defiance or is disrespectful to the teacher; is unsafe in the laboratory; is severely abusing computer privileges, he/she will be sent immediately to the office.
Materials needed each day:
(1.) Blue/black ball point pen and a pencil
(2.) Three-ring binder with loose leaf paper and dividers
(3.) Textbook and agenda book (student handbook)
Notebook Organization:
A notebook will be required by all students. The notebook should be a 3-ring binder that is at least 1½ in wide. Each student should have 6 sections including:
(1.) Vocabulary/Directed Readings
(2.) Notes/Formula Sheet
(3.) Classwork
(4.) Labs
(5.) Reviews
(6.) Quizzes/Tests
Tardy/Attendance policy:
(1.) The tardy/attendance policy for the class follows the student handbook. Students are considered tardy if they are not in the room and ready to begin class at the tardy bell.
(2.) If you have an excused absence, you are expected to contact me to obtain the missing assignment. Work must be completed within the appropriate time as stated in the attendance policy in your student handbook.
(3.) If your absence is unexcused, you will not be permitted to make up the missed assignment and it will be recorded in the grade book as a “0”. As per board policy.
Cheating policy:
Students are expected to practice academic integrity. Cheating will not be tolerated. The consequences for such actions will follow the student handbook.
Grading information:
The grading scale follows the student handbook.
60% Summative Assessments- Tests/Projects/Major Projects
40% Formative Assessments- Daily Work/Labs/Extra-Credit
Semester grades will be determined as follows:
Semester One / Semester Two
All Formative and Summative grades will account for 90%
Semester Final: 10%
Other policies:
(1.) Assignments are considered late if they are not handed in when called for. A late assignment will lose 10% of its total value for each day. After 4 days late 60% is the maximum possible grade.
(2.) If you are going on a school trip or any extracurricular activity during the school day, daily work/tests are to be handed in or taken prior to leaving, unless the teacher has made other arrangements. Students are responsible to obtain assignments prior to leaving for trip.
(3.) Students absent on test days or when an assignment is due, are expected to take the test or hand in the assignment the day they return to class, except in the case of a prolonged absence. A test will need to be made up either before or after school.
(4.) With any science class, safety is a major concern while working in the lab. Students who misbehave or who refuse to follow proper safety procedures, will be removed immediately from the lab, sent to the office, and parents/guardians notified. Consequences for this behavior will follow the guidelines in the student handbook and the lab assignment grade will be recorded as a “0” in the grade book.
(5.) Electronic devices (Cell phones, E-Readers, I-Pads ect,) are permitted in class must be turned off during class unless teacher permission is obtained. Any violation of this class rule will result in the device being confiscated and a referral to the office.
